Curt's Citizen Advisory Forum Words like “representation” and “community” and “grassroots” can be more than slogans. Here in the I-85 Corridor, we turn these ideas into action, and key to that is the Citizens Advisory Forum. We meet about once a month for breakfast to discuss current events and the issues facing our communities. The discussions are great, and so is the food. And once we’ve talked, we act, both here in our neighborhoods and at the Capitol. Won’t you join us? The Citizens Advisory Forum typically meets at 10:30 am on the third Saturday of every month at Cafe 45 South which is located in the 45 South Peachtree Street Norcross, GA 30071. The breakfast is free to all who attend, and kids are welcome. So if you’d like to attend (and I hope you will), please give me a call at home. My number is (404) 643-2649. Or e-mail me at curt@curtthompson.com.

Part of what we do is organize community projects, with a focus on getting neighborhood associations and homeowners associations set up or restarted. Plus, of particular importance here in our aging neighborhoods, we work on problems ranging from crime to general upkeep. We have helped one area (the Dove Trace and Roman Pointe Subdivisions) start a neighborhood association and will be helping another neighborhood (Hyde Park) replace their frontage fence. I think we’re providing a valuable volunteer service to District 5, especially at a time when local governments are so strapped for cash. Another focus is legislation that can make a difference, and that’s why it’s so important for me to get regular feedback from the community - after all, who knows what real folks need their government to do better than real folks themselves? Several proposals for bills dealing with congestion and education have come out of our discussions. We've also had roundtable discussions on issues like immigration and school vouchers. Your being a part of this will help me represent the voices here in the 5th. The words “community” and “communication” come from the same place, and it’s all about sharing. So join our Citizens Advisory Forum and build a stronger community by communicating. I’ll listen. And I know your neighbors will listen, too.
