The 5th Senate District of Georgia encompasses the Interstate 85 corridor, beginning just outside of the 285 Perimeter and running northeast from Graves Park to Briscoe Field. The entirety of this district lies within Gwinnett County and includes cities like Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, and Norcross.
With a population of over 172,000 people, the 5th District is one of the most diverse districts in Gwinnett County. Over 120 languages are spoken in this district with its population groups originating from all over the world. In addition, the community contains many cultural aspects, seen through its various ethnic shopping areas, neighborhoods, and religious institutions which consist of churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques.
The diversity of the 5th District is symbolic for the extensive multicultural growth both Georgia and America are experiencing today. This expansion yields an opportunity for dispersing cultures and constructing stronger communities. As a growing melting pot, the distinctiveness of District 5 isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
