Healthcare Issues
Good health matters. That means that every one of us has an interest in taking the politics out of access to health care. Political debate covers not one sick child needing immunization, not one senior hoping to stay in her own home and in dignity, and not one hard-working middle class family up against co-pays so high they are afraid to get sick. End the debate now. The State of Georgia needs to participate in the new health care reform law to give it the best chance possible of making sure you have quality affordable health care coverage that can never be taken away. The Republicans in Georgia should drop their silly grand-standing lawsuit and get with the program.
Instead of fighting against more and better healthcare protections for Georgians, the State of Georgia should be out in front, showing how we can help you make your life work better. We can expand upon Medicare, and a good first step would be enabling folks as young as 55 to sign up for coverage. We need a public option to compete and keep the big insurance companies from profiteering at our expense.
If the Special Interests in Washington DC succeed in their plans to undermine the new health care reform law, then the Georgia Legislature needs to fix things here. “A Penny for the Kids!” With a single extra penny on the dollar sales tax we pay, Georgia can insure every child - from pre-natal coverage to college - with money left to spare. A penny for the kids could pay for itself with the additional businesses and their jobs that relocate here because we take care of our workers. Progress on health care works. It works for you
